10-Nov-06 Last day in San Francisco

Today was spent going to Fishermans Wharf again to cash in on our San Francisco Bay Cruise.
Very interesting. It was good going under the Golden Gate Bridge, gave a true scale as to how big it is. To be fair tho, the Severn Bridge is just as big, just not orangey in colour ;)
Other highlights of the cruise was seeing house boats in Sausalito, one of which is in the shape of the Taj Mahal...Very classy. "Only in America" springs to mind!

Upon docking we caught the tram thingy to the Embarcadero centre which was seemingly mentioned by a lot of people as a good place to shop. It's a 60's/70's looking concrete monster of buildings containing shops of all types. Just no shoppers, perhaps they've been put off by the architecture as well! Further into town we went to the top of Macy's, at the cheesecake factory to have a look over union square which was also where Sachs, Tiffanys. Impressive. Then finding out that it was a 45 minute wait to be seated at the cheesecake factory, we then went to the shopping centre where Bloomingdales is. That was an impressive shopping centre.
Must of been 10 floors of shops with a visually mad escalator system in the middle. In the basement was the food hall with a variety of nice food. We ended up having Korean, very nice and, I think, Andreas flavor of the month. Nb. Comment from Andrea, I was wooed by the fact it was the poshiest fast food hall ive ever been in, the food was on proper plates.

The evening was spent going back to Fishermans wharf to try out the Clam Chowder in a Bread Bowl. As a Brit, this is akin to having your Sunday roast in a giant Yorkshire pudding. Was very nice. Walking over to say goodbye to the seals on Pier 39, we came upon a load of experienced roller bladers/skaters flying past. Andrea was completely wooed by this, and almost started dribbling when a guy flew past roller blading pushing a custom wheelbarrow with a massive sound system inside. I Can't help but think that an iPod would of been a little more portable ;)
Having a drink and a romantic wander marked our last night in lovely San Francisco.
